FAQ

Q: Where can I buy a SOMA AirBag?

A: Check out our Dealers page. You can also purchase directly online with us if SOMA AirBags are not available at a local dealer.

Q: Can I check my SOMA AirBag on flights?
A: Yes. SOMA AirBag Designs™ are FAA approved.

Q: Why are SOMA AirBag Designs™ the best board bags for protection currently on the market?

A: SOMA AirBag Designs™ offer the most protection for your board with less weight and easy portability as no other board bag ever designed. The air pressure and confined individual air columns disperse energy and do not allow damaging contact with your board. This along with the entire rails having the same air columns PLUS 1/4” closed cell foam for double rail protection. Our patented AIR-P™ (Asymmetrical Interior Rocker Protection) design will ensure your board from ever dinging, snapping or flexing due to heavy weight being applied on top or bottom of board.

Q: What if my SOMA AirBag punctures or tears?

A: SOMA AirBag Designs™ are designed and produced with 100% Sonic Welded Seams along with 600 Denier Ballistic Polyester material with a triple coating of Polyester Vinyl Chloride increasing the strength by another 25%. This results in strength comparable to 750 denier material. The Tail, Nose & Rail areas have additional reinforced 1000 Denier PVC coated material over the 600 Denier for bullet proof strength to these more exposed areas. A simple-to-use vinyl cement Repair Kit and fabric swatch is included with each bag just in case of emergency though. Repair Kit is good for several uses if need be.

Q: Is there a product warranty?

A: There is a 5 year workmanship / 1 year material warranty on all products. Please contact us directly with any problems. Do not return to shop where purchased.

Q: Can I pack clothing in with the SOMA AirBag?

A: Yes. This actually works very well. Slide your board into the AirBag with it completely DEFLATED and strategically place clothing around board. THEN inflate the AirBag. The excess space within the AirBag will appropriately mold perfectly around your board and clothing with a perfect & secure fit every time.

Q: Will the increased air pressure affect my SOMA AirBag during flights?

A: Aircrafts are pressurized throughout flight to a cabin pressure of approximately 8,000 feet during cruise, which corresponds to a pressure of approximately 11 psi (compared to 14.7 psi at sea level). During aircraft climb and descent, the pressure varies between 14.7 and 11 psi. Inflate your SOMA ABD to approximately 90% capacity allowing just a bit of give.

Q: I am having a hard time getting my board in or out of the bag?

A: Our extended full side zipper opening will make it simple for board insertion or removal from bag but there would be two reasons if the board is grabby within bag. First of all would be the typical melty wax build up attaching your board to the bag and the other would be the ultra snug fit of the bag to your board which amplifies it’s protection. In the latter case, deflate the bag a bit to give it some extra playroom and it will ease the removal. We recommend using a board sock as this will keep your SOMA AirBag wax free.

Q: How long does it take to inflate?

A: It takes less than 5 minutes to inflate a SOMA AirBag under average lung power.

Q: Does the SOMA AirBag get hot?

A: SOMA AirBag Designs™ are the only travel bag able to claim being heat protective. Our designs are extremely insulating, cooling and heat protective as opposed to thick foam travel bags that actually absorb & hold heat. This is especially crucial for eps/epoxy technology as heat is the main enemy in damaging boards. XTR (Extruded Polystyrene) boards are heat stable to only 145 degrees Fahrenheit (being the reason for that little vent hole). This is such an issue that many excellent shapers must apply a disclaimer on every board stating “Do Not Overheat.” Keep your board nice & cool when traveling to your tropical warm water sessions.

SUGGESTIONS
- Be sure to tighten the screws from your fin system so they are flush within your fin box so as to ensure that they do not rub against material.
- Be very careful when inserting your board into the bag so as not to drill the tip of your board into the fabric. It is best to insert your board into the bag while deflated and then inflate afterwards.
- Rinse the zipper & entire bag with fresh water periodically to remove salt and corrosive residue.
- ATTENTION SHAPERS: We’ve been told that an average of 1 out of every 7 new custom boards shipped gets damaged even when packed and boxed properly. Save valuable labor time of packing along with costs of bubble wrap/materials by placing the customer’s new board in a SOMA AirBag and just slide it into the shipping box. This also saves tons of un-recyclable waste from occupying our landfills. Credit the saved labor/material costs into the price of the bag for a discount and have a stoked customer along with more efficiency!
